Absolutely. Steam can be very effective for removing stains and bacteria. However, we recommend vacuuming your carpet first to pick up any dirt, dust, and debris as steam cleaning over these can damage the carpet fibres.
Start on the lowest setting your steam cleaner has and work your way up until you’re seeing results.
If you’re fitting a carpet yourself, it’s crucial to get the measurements spot on.
Start by measuring the widest point, across the width and the length. Include any alcoves, doorways and window bays. Add at least 10 cm to your measurements to allow for fitting, trimming and any room irregularities.

Laying Tredaire underlay is straightforward and follows the same process as other underlays. Here’s what you’ll need and a step-by-step guide to help you fit it correctly.
Tools:
- Utility knife
- Hammer
- Nail punch
- Pliers
- Staple gun (if needed)
- Straightedge or ruler
Fitting Guide:
Step 1: Measure and cut the underlay. Measure your room accurately to determine how much underlay you need. Use a utility knife and straightedge to cut the underlay to size.
Step 2: Prepare the subfloor. Check the condition of your subfloor for damage. Remove any dust or dirt by sweeping or vacuuming, and ensure there are no protruding nails or staples from previous flooring.
Step 3: Lay the underlay. Start from one corner of the room and roll out the underlay. If using multiple sheets, place them side by side without overlapping.
Step 4: Secure the underlay. Most underlays can be secured with seam tape. If additional fixing is needed, use a staple gun to attach the edges to the subfloor.
Step 5: Install your flooring. With the underlay in place, you can now proceed to install your top-level flooring.
