The differences between styles are usually dependant on your personal taste, but certain carpets have extra properties. A loop pile carpet, for example is usually very hard wearing, but we wouldn't recommend you fit a loop pile carpet if you have pets, as their claws/nails can catch.

A twist pile carpet is one of the most common types, with a soft, hard wearing construction. A saxony carpet has a very thick, dense pile. We wouldn't recommend you fit a shaggy saxony carpet on your stairs or landings, as it can create a 'false step' where the pile sticks out more than the step, causing you to trip. A shaggy pile carpet would be perfect in a bedroom or a living room however, as it's the last word in comfort!
